| Battery improves travel; grip reduces thumb cramps |
Not perfect, but still great.
This item is great for two reasons.
1) I do a lot of international travel (read: really long flights), and this extended battery has removed all fears of my PSP's battery not lasting the whole trip. I have yet to see how long it will actually last, but my 12 hour flight to Japan was no problem. I tried to wear the battery down the other day so that when I charger it for my next trip I wouldn't overcharge it. I left the PSP on all day and the battery never died. I was impressed. So were my co-workers. I sold two more to them.
2) The added grips completely eliminated the left thumb cramps I used to get. I would always have to pause the game for awhile and stretch my thumb after playing the PSP for awhile. With these grips, it now feels like a Dual-Shock Playstation controller. It feels like an old friend.
Three Issues:
1) The plastic is smooth and unfinished. I would have preferred a textured surface like a PS controller. You don't really realize this while you are playing, but it does look a bit cheap.
2) As mentioned in other reviews, the grips don't lock in the "open"position, so there is a little wiggle when playing. It is not distracting or a major deal, but again it does cheapen the experience.
3) I travel with a backpack. My PSP, headphones, games and this device. The PSP is stored in a protective case, so this device is just sitting in the backpack. Although this device does "fold up" a bit, the hooks that fit around the PSP do not move and they do stick out quite far. I have a fear that they will snap off while in my backpack. They aren't flimsy, but you could easily see them snapping off if my bag got bumped too hard.
Overall, I love this product. It has made my PSP enjoyment so much better. But it is not perfect. Hopefully Nyko will do some tweaks.
Don't forget to add the Sony Location Free LF-V30 to your PSP accessories. It changes everything. |

| Wobbly!!! Not good for PSP Slim |
I bought this last week and when I got it, I slapped in the PSP slim and i thought i was doing something wrong, but the holder doesn't hold very well. When you start playing, the psp wobbles. Not worth it. |

| Superglue is the answer |
This is a great accessory. It truly adds about 4 hrs. of battery life, and it will accomodate a PSP slim with a fat battery and cover. It's much more comfortable for extended use of the PSP - no more hand cramps.
My only complaint is that it doesn't lock into the extended position and the PSP does move around a little bit when it's in there. Not a huge deal, but it's easy remedied if you don't mind losing the ability to collapse the charger grip for storage. Just open it to the fully extended position and run a bead of Superglue all around the joints on both sides. When it dries, it'll be nice and firm, as if it was made NOT to collapse. Put in the PSP and it's as tight and immobile as you could ask for.
It's a simple mod that makes the unit 5 stars - and it's 4 stars out of the box. A must-have accessory. |
