| See the last 90 minutes |
I putted this movie of my Netflix Queue months ago and i still had not recieved it. I saw it at a rental store was going to rent it buy a guy said it was boring and it was three hours. I happen to come by it on cable midway threw. Around when Jesse and Robert were setting off to go to Jesses home. Those 90 minutes were really good. The photography was great to look at and the performances were spot on. Especially Casey Affleck's performance. Afterwords i Googled the life story of Jesse James, Robert Ford and the guy who killed Robert Ford. Since i miss half the movie i wanted to know what i missed.
So i suggest if you start the movie and it is boring to you just fast forward to the 90 minute mark. |

| Confused! |
I don't even know the history of jesse james I just knew that he was an outlaw legend of somekind, I bought this movie just because it was one of the latest HD DVD releases and i was interrested in seeing it.
It starts out slowly talking about jesse then robert which I was more focused on, I wanted to know why did they call him a coward, he could have been the brave, didn't get it up until the first hour and a half passed by and I was feeling sorry for the guy .. then It started to clear up. After an hour and a half of yawning occasionally .. the movie got alot more interresting and in conclusion .... I agree on the coward part.
Brad and Casey were both incredible in this movie, it makes you feel that it's different from the westerns you're used to, everything is different..the pace, the directing, the editing, the acting, I mean this is truely one of a kind. |

| Disappointed |
I didn't quite know what to expect when I watched this movie. I love Brad Pitt so I took a chance. The storyline is very good. I wasn't familiar with the history of Jesse James and was very shocked to see this. Brad Pitt played this part perfectly. Casey Affleck did a excellent job. I do not like Casey Affleck and really don't like him after seening this film. But let me just say he does an excellent job as he truly makes you hate Robert Ford. He plays the coward role extremely well. Good job Casey! The movie did seem dry to me. It was boring and felt very very long. I was glad when it was over. Glad I didn't see this in the theaters and glad I didn't buy it. I'll not watch this movie a second time. |

| The Thin Dark Line |
Just rented the DVD and watched this for the first time last night- missed seeing it in the theatres (which was released in Tulsa, OK, strangely only for a brief time, and then only at an "arts" film theatre).
I'm sure seeing it on a small screen detracts from the cinematography, which looks beautiful even on a TV screen.
Many other reviews on this site already aptly summarize the well-known story, and I agree the acting all around is first rate.
But at 140 minutes in length, I suspect that it will appeal mostly to students of the James gang history, and film-as-art officionados particularly- but perhaps not to most Western movie fans. The action in the movie is done well enough, perhaps even more realistically than most "shoot-em up" Westerns, but unfortunately these brief, violent moments are separated by long stretches of character-development. Don't get me wrong, I liked this film very much, but I'd have to say that you have to be in the mood, so to speak, to really appreciate this film. I'd liken it very much to Terrence Mallick's "The Thin Red Line", about the Guadalcanal struggle of 1942. History, yes, but only loosely so- more of an allegory, and a visual feast, than edge-of-your-seat action.
I suspect the intentional slow pace of this film will lose a considerable number of viewers, but for those who have 3 hours to spare, and are in a pensive mood, this is Western movie-making worth vieiwing. I plan to buy myself a DVD for my own, and I suspect that with repeated viewing, it will grow on me with time. It clearly has a lasting impact after one viewing. Recommended, but probably for a relatively contemplative audience. |

I was expecting a more action, thrilling ride. Left me very unsatisfied, from expectations. While Brad Pitt is exceptional, it really drags on and nothing to keep it going, very dry. It is a interesting story, but I'd rather read it. |
