| Quite possibly the best series I've ever watched |
Other than House of Elliott and Dexter (Seasons 1 and 2) -- this was the most fun I've ever had watching a dvd. Super smart, devious, hopelessly addicting. Not one slow moment. A gorger (you won't be able to stop watching until the end). |

| Endless machinations & manipulations |
"Damages" is a television series that demands a lot from the viewer. Not only are there multiple timelines, but many of the characters are experts at the art of deception. Beware of accepting things at face value. In addition, most of the characters are pretty easy to dislike, and I can see how that could be a drawback for some viewers. The world portrayed in "Damages" is a dark and brutal one. However, the twists and turns of the plot, the structure of the story, and the outstanding performances make "Damages" compelling viewing.
Rose Byrne plays Ellen Parsons, a young, somewhat naïve attorney who is recruited by the high-powered attorney Patty Hewes. Byrne is always believable and sympathetic as the young lawyer whose sense of idealism about her profession cannot last in the world of Patty Hewes. Glenn Close plays Hewes, and she radiates a fierce intelligence while managing to be equally adept at showing occasional vulnerability. It's an amazing performance. Zeljko Ivanek does an outstanding job portraying Ray Fiske, the lead attorney opposing Patty Hewes, who is hiding a secret of his own. There are other great performances as well, but those are three that stand out for me.
All of the pieces come together in the final episode and the stage is set for what should be another fascinating season. I know I'll be watching.
