| Good teacher, instruction for basic passe1970s/80s dancing |
Chapters include:
BEGINNER - Rhythm in Place (stepping in place, bending your knees, pelvic thrusts, hip bumps), Taps (step-tap), Points (pointing your foot), Different levels (bend your knees), Chasses (double step), Review of 1-5 INTERMEDIATE - Grapevine, Turns, Hip Rolls, Walks, Swivels, Review of 6-10
From the clips you will see this is old style, passe, 1970s, 1980s Solid Gold, Soul Train dancing.
Kasia Kozak is a great teacher though, she shows both front & back views, normal speed first, breaks it down & tells you what body part to move instead of just counting. I will try her hip hop possibly which you can see clips on youtube, etc. on.
I like Kasia & the decent production & pace. I took off 3 stars for the style of dance, lack of music during instruction even softly & lame music when they do dance to music.

| Not entirely practical |
I didn't think this video was all that great. I mean, it actually takes the time to teach you grapevine(?!). Admittedly, I have no rhythm, but I don't really feel like this video gave me much more. I think I've learned more from my salsa dancing video for club dancing, if you can believe that. Out of the 24 or so different things they try to teach you, I found about 4 or 5 helpful. I agree with another reviewer in that if I saw someone dancing the way the woman in this video does, I would be tempted to laugh. |

| 5 stars if you are a female |
This dvd is of great production quality. The dvd menu makes it easy and convenient to use. The moves shown and demonstrated are basic, and are presented in a slow manner that makes it very easy to learn. However, the moves are all very feminine.
In the opening of the video the instructor says that the moves are the basics for anyone, male or female. Maybe in other regions of the world this is true, but here in the USA these toe tapping, hip turning moves are undoubtably effeminate.
My reccomendation is that if you are a woman looking for some basic moves, buy it. As for the men out there, avoid this and try the dvd "Hip Hop Moves For The Club" by Nightclub Dance Series. I am currently having a blast learning the moves in that dvd, they are strictly for men and make you look really hip. |
