| Story |
I'm not a stickler for historical fact (assuming I even know the what the facts are). I watch movies for the story -- if it tells a good story, I'm there. If it doesn't, no sweat, on to the next. This movie, however, compels me voice an opinion.
It might have worked on some level if, for one thing, it was not awash with blood. Fountains of it, rivers of it, oceans of it, beyond excessive and certainly annoying. A real distraction -- oh, jeez, here comes the blood again.
Secondly, I'm totally open-minded about movie costuming as I've seen it used to great effect in delivering a story regardless of accuracy, etc. But when I saw King Xerxes in a g-string, I busted out laughing. Whoever this guy was, he wasn't king of anything or even janitor of anything. The poor man would have to've been a stellar actor to overcome that costume. He was sunk before he uttered a word.
In all there were so many distractions, whatever story line there was didn't matter. You couldn't tell or care what it was. |

An admission: I couldn't watch more than 10 mins or so of this, so this review is clearly an unfair one on that level. But . . . this is rubbish. Got it "free" with the Toshiba player, and I am sure there are thousands of copies out there for cheap. Don't waste you money. Gratuitous violence, ultra pretentious, and the most stilted acting you have ever seen. This sort of movie would be great for proponents of censorchip. Not because censorship is a good idea or anything like that, but just because if this movie were to be banned the world would be - fractionally - a better place. |
