| "27 Dresses" Fairy Tale Review by Mike Elliano |
So why the poor rating you may wonder. Well, this rating is based entirely on script and lacking in reality. The acting and overall story was fine. Nothing wierd, overly stupid, or overally funny. A modern day "Cinderella Story" of an attractive "princess" who is always the maid and never the bride. This lovely woman can never so no to her friends and family and is the best at heart. But I am a guy so I will have the to provide two assumed viewpoints for both men and woman:
Woman will love this modern day Cinderella story about an independent, loving, and intelligent, but overly caring woman who finds one day a frog who actually is her prince. The man she loves in the beginning is an outdoor loving handsome, successful man whom she works for. She has a crush on him for years and when he falls for sister instead she becomes involved with a Cynical newspaper writer who pursues her after a wedding and wins her heart after a few major mistakes. But, she finds a few sparks and lets her heart go and finds happiness.
Men will cringe at this movie because it is the time after times story of an attractive woman that is always chasing after a man who just isn't interested. Instead she find a nice guy who in not an average looking guy with a great personality and heart, but instead the kind of guy who is in fact better looking, younger, and would in reality have women chasing him day and night. In the end she has her perfect wedding and gets to turn down the boss and marry him instead. So instead of settling for second best she finds here "prince." Woman will cry and we may vomit.
In the middle not really a love story, but instead more of a "fairy tale." |

| Tribute to the variety of wedding and bridesmaid dresses |
The movie shows the adventure of being a bridesmaid from all the fittings to the problem of working for a boss you have a big crush on that doesn't know you're alive. The main character Jane is a pushover to all those in her life and both her boss George and her sister Tess take great advantage of that. In fact her boss even says that he loves that she never says "no" , dropping anything in her life to please him.
Tess coming to town makes her days with her boss even more torment as the sister/boss start to go out. Most people would sense the tension but the good natured Jane lets her sister gush on and on not to mention following any requests she makes. Granted she was used to taking care of her sister from a young age but the sister is so self-centered.
Jane's romantic interest is one cynical matrimony reporter named Kevin that takes interest in her while watching her balance two weddings. There are some lighthearted laughs on her taxi adventures back and forth. He ends up with her planner and makes a point of getting her attention even though she finds him a pest.
The reporter Kevin and Jane end up arguing while driving too fast in a rain storm...hyrdoplaning off the road. That sparks a night adventure where they actually get to talk, sing, and start to get to know each other.
My problems with this movie though are in the concept of romantic as much as comedy. Without giving the story away it is hard to explain this but I do prefer a more family friendly movie where the characters actually date. There just wasn't much anticipation, looks, or leading up to the event that brought the two together. What is romantic about getting drunk with someone you barely know and then going from there?
Comedy depends on your sense of humor which is mostly at Jane's expense. Personally I wouldn't consider holding someone's wedding dress while they peed as funny...I wouldn't want to be there or even witness it. The line of you can shorten the wedding or bridesmaid dress and use it again is overused and tiresome. Seriously most wedding or bridesmaid dresses are too fancy to be worn much if any to most occasions.
Overall though, the movie has its moments where it shines but even a romantic comedy fan like myself can find much better in one of my classic old favorites...When Harry met Sally. |

| My first review - I had to write this! |
This was a wonderful escape. I laughed out loud and cried shamelessly. I am still smiling - if you can believe this I actually let the credits run to the end. I watch a lot of movies - almost all that come out and this is the first time I felt the need to write a review. Chick flicks aren't my cup of tea normally, but I'd seen all the other movies at Blockbuster, so I picked this up. Predictable? Yes, but so much fun to watch it play out. I have to go now, I want to watch the deleted scenes... Peace. |

| Maybe it's beause I had low expecations that I liked it so much |
I just saw it on DVD and I expected to not like it because the critis certainly didn't and (no offense to anyone who likes Katherine Heigl), but I just don't think she's a fabulous actress. However, I was pleasantly surprised and I got my husband to watch it as well and he liked it, too. I laughed at most of the parts that had to do with her being a bridesmaid while he laughed at the best friend of Katherine's character and James Marsden's character. Just take it for what it is: a light romantic comedy and I think you'll enjoy it. |

| Great gift for any girl! |
I have heard so much about this movie and just got the chance to finally see it! It's true, it IS a chick flick! (what gave it away?!) I know guys Hate chick flicks, but honestly how many times have we sat through Alien vs. Predator for them. It is a great movie, up there with all the best "chick flicks". If you watched Wedding Planner, Just Like Heaven, or even Pretty Woman a few dozen times then this one is a must have. I've watched it twice today and plan to watch it again soon. It would make the perfect gift for almost any girl or woman. And hey, for those guys nice enough to sit and watch it with their girl, they may even secretly enjoy it! |
