Sony DNE-920 MP3/ATRAC CD Walkman Portable Compact Disc Player

like this player alot, I use it on my motorcycle, the controls on the ear pice wire helps out a great deal. skips on the motorcycle unless its starped on me.

My DNE920 failed after about 30 hours of use. I paid to return it for a warranty exchange ($15). The exchange unit (supposedly fully re-manufactured and tested) turned off with the slightest bump - such as setting it (not dropping, setting) on a sofa or sliding it into my pocket. Not a skip - the unit would turn off and reboot. This time, Sony paid the shipping both ways. The second replacement unit seems to work OK, but the charging base arrived broken: the electrodes were broken off. As the broken-off pieces were not in the sealed bag, the base must have been broken when it was put in the bag. The repair center wants the entire package (player and all accessories) returned to exchange, yet again; another 10-day turnaround. My conclusion: the repair center is out of control. Don't depend on any repair service from Sony. If it breaks, kiss it goodbye.

Oh, Yes: The sound quality is outstanding when it works. Especially with upgraded earphones. I listen to classical.

I purchased this CD player for its multi-format reading capabilities, long-lasting rechargeable gumstick battery, 5-line backlit display on the player (1 line on the remote), extensive options such as a customizable graphic equalizer and numerous play modes, and of course the trusted Sony name. The first remarkable thing I noticed about this player when I received it in the mail was its extremely small size - hardly any wider than a cd and very thin. You could stow it away if you have deep enough pockets, and use the included remote to operate almost every function without touching the player itself.
The player is smart enough to recognize ID3 tags which is handy when they are included on a cd.
It comes with software for SonicStage which allows the user to burn ATRAC or ATRACplus (or MP3) data files which the player will read. The battery lasts longer when playing these types of files than when playing a standard cd, but either way it is nice to come home and stick the player into the charging stand overnight and not keep buying new batteries for it all the time.
The CD player does not come with a car kit. However, I find that an AC adapter is not needed due to the incredible battery life, and a casette adapter can be easily purchased separately at a store.
If the gumstick battery happens to die and you simply can't recharge it at the moment, you can attach the external AA battery case.
The player has a digital amplifier which doesn't cut down on battery life when you crank up the volume.
In addition to a customizable graphic equalizer, there are also a small handful of equalizer presets, plus four bass intensity options.
The included earbuds serve their purpose but if you're going to be listening under headphones most of the time, I'd suggest purchasing a higher quality pair if you are picky about sound quality.
Some of the features are difficult to navigate on the cd player & remote, but that's easily fixed: read the manual first.
The player has a durable aluminum casing but if you're going to be tossing it into the car a lot, look into buying a more cushioned carrying case. The G-Protection anti-skip can take a little beating, but I like to protect my new player from scratches and such.
This is one high-quality little cd player! One of the best on the market, I'd say. It's worth the price.
