| Not Bad...uhhh...basically the cheape$t one around... |
Good...very good...exactly what people are looking for...$199.99 @ Fry's electronics!!!! good god those Heathens - amazon order takes about 4 seconds to arrive (voila!)
THE only thing I HATE - You must select the screen (button 1 or 2) first before your computer boots up - otherwise, your Mac or PC will have default small desktop - thus destroying any Icon Workflow one may have developed! maybe I'm missing a secret setting on the PC that says "Never arrange Desktop" |

| PC/Mac KVM |
Got this device to be able to help transition from Windows PC to Mac. Was helpful in getting rid of the second monitor but lots of trouble when switching with video resolution. Was useful but not worth the $$$ spent. |

| Works for me |
I bought this as a replacement for another IOGear KVM with PS/2 mouse/keyboard and Analog Video (was forced to because of new PC purchase). I was worried about whether or not this would work how I needed it to, as KVM switches for me have always been hit-and-miss. I decided to get this one because the IOGear brand has seemed to be the best working brand for me in the past. My two requirements were 1.) cables had to be 6 ft. long, and 2.) hotkey function must work because the actual switch box will be inaccessible. This meets both requirements. I have it set up to switch between my work laptop (XP) and my home PC (Vista) and it works fine for both.
The reason I gave this 4 stars instead of 5 is because of the need for external power. There may be a good reason for this, I don't know. My previous IOGear KVM worked great without need for power. Anyway, as I was installing and testing this, we had a power blip and I lost video display from the laptop (external monitor set up as second screen). I had to actually turn everything off - power down both computers and KVM and then bring them back up again - to get video back. It's not a big deal, I just moved the power for the KVM to my battery backup and I shouldn't have any more problems with that. Other than that, this unit is solid and well-built. It's heavy, the casing is metal, not plastic.
Also, I didn't buy it from Amazon because I didn't want to go through the hassle of returning it if it didn't work for me. I paid full price ($200) for it and I am still happy with my purchase. |

| Works Great |
Works great, once I got out the little bugs. It was very easy to setup. It comes with all the cables that you need, which is a plus.
I had 2 issues during the initial set up, which one seemed to work itself out, but the other is still a problem.
1 - At first, I could not get the correct resolution to display on me HP w2207h monitor, and I was very close to sending it back. But I was able to get it working correctly.
On my Windows machine, I went ahead and reinstalled the drivers for it and that seemed to fix the issue.
On my Linux machine I had to reboot it a couple of times before it would recognized the monitor.
In both cases, it was not recognizing the monitor.
2 - On the Windows machine, using MS Word, the screen flashes, every so slightly as I am typing. It does not do this on the Linux machine. Maybe that is going to be my reasoning to switch to Linux permanently. This is still an issue and I have not found a resolution.
Bottom line - I am very pleased with this product.

IOGEAR 2-Port DVI KVMP Switch with Audio and Cables (GCS1762)
I have a 17" MacBook Pro that I use as my main system for web design and an older HP desktop that I use for testing purposes. I was using a Belkin 4-port USB switch. The Belkin USB switch was causing a massive amount of kernel panics on my Mac so I decided to give a real KVM a try. I set this up and worked out a kink or two and now it works flawlessly.
The downside to this is that it is only DVI so if you've got an older (or more bare bones) you may have to purchase and install a new video card that includes DVI. That was the case for me. Not a big factor in the long run, though.
Initially when I started my Mac the KVM was set to display the PC. When I switched over to the Mac on the KVM, the resolution for both the laptop and the Dell 27" flat panel was screwy. I looked it up online and found out that you simply have to restart the Mac with the KVM set to display the Mac, set the display settings (if required), and the Mac will remember it from that point forward. So that wasn't a big issue either.
Overall, it's a fabulous product that is going to lengthen my lifespan for each kernel panic it helps me avoid. :-D |
