| Best video card |
I've just bought this card and installed it in my computer.
My system was: E6600@2400, 2Gb 667Mhz, 7600 GS with 512Mb GDDR2.
With these settings my 3DMark was 1,594.
I wanted to upgrade my system to play the latest games, but was in no mood for changing my CPU (I think I'll wait for Nehalem to come, with its real Quad Core technology). I've decided then to change only my GPU and, after doing it, 3DMark skyrocketed to 10,598. Almost seven fold gain just changing the video card!
And how does that gain translate into real performance? I have just installed Crysis and, at 1280x1024 (my native resolution), every setting is at high - not very high and no AA- the game looks great. I couldn't believe it when I saw.
If you are a gamer, there is no better investment for your money. Remember that when talking about games you always have more return on your money investing in the best GPU than in the best CPU.
Things to keep in mind if you want to buy this card:
1 - You really need a good PSU. 500W is the minimum for a single card configuration. If you're going SLI, consider at least 850W. I got myself a 1200W Toughpower from Thermaltake that appears to be handling the job pretty well.
2 - It is big and generates a lot of heat. Not only your case has to be big enough, it also has to have great ventilation, otherwise your system will burn. Because I live in Brazil, where temperatures easily reach 30C in summer, I can picture myself spending some extra dollars in a liquid cooling case some time from now. It never really ends, does it?

| Best Video Card on the Market Today. |
I had an 8800gtx and it was amazing but i just had to get the Ultra to see what it could do.For the most part there isn't a big difference between the gtx and Ultra but i have noticed higher Frames per second in the game Crysis which is a very demanding game.If you already have an 8800gtx and are happy, stick with it,but if you are the kind of person that just has to have the best(Like me)get the Ultra.Nothing beats this card,it is simply the most powerful video card out there right now.One thing i will say is that the Ultra is just like the gtx in regards to the power requirements, you will need at least a 500watt psu with 35a on the 12v rail.A monster like this needs A LOT of juice and you should get the best psu you can afford,a 750watt psu with the specs i have mentioned will give you plenty of wiggle room to work with.Want the best Get the Ultra. It's worth every penny. |
