| LOTS of problems with my Epson Photo |
After years of happy photo printing with my Canon i960 I replaced it with my Epson R280 Photo. When my Epson works, it works pretty good. When it doesn't work (50% of the time) it is awful. VERY hard to figure out why it isn't printing right. It is a crapshoot to guess which ink is out. Sure it has a gauge but whenever I replace the one it shows the lowest, it doesn't fix the problem. Neither does cleaning the heads repeatedly.
This has been an exercise in frustration for me and I can't imagine ever buying another Epson printer again. That is sad because I used to think Epson's were really the very best printers made. Not any more. |

| Nice pictures; pricey ink |
Fortunately my printer worked great right out of the box unlike the unfortunate souls who had trouble (I'll admit their troubles made me slightly hesitant to order this one but I threw caution to the wind). The only caveat is that I've had trouble using anything other than Epson photo paper. Other papers don't absorb the ink fast enough and they puddle on the top which causes them to run and bleed together; not the image quality I was going for. Yes, yes I realize Epson recommends using only their paper but all printers recommend using only their papers despite the fact that there are multitudes of off brand photo papers manufactured. SOMEONE must be using off brand paper with success; it just ain't me. It does print off really nice quality pictures on the Epson paper.
Now, having said all that I will just have to decide if come time to replace the ink if I'm going to actually buy the cartridges or just buy a new printer--a new printer is cheaper than the cartridges! So, no five stars for you, Epson R280! |

| Excellent DVD printer |
I purchased the Epson R280 to specifically print on DVDs and am extremely pleased with the product. The printer setup was straightforward, software was easy to use, and, most importantly, the results were amazing and met my expectations.
Since a printer cable was not included, I specified four stars instead of five.

| Cudos to the R280 Printer |
I recently purchased this item because I wanted to print CD and DVD labels. Not only does the printer do this very well, it is amazingly fast for an inkjet printer. The software setup was easy and only took a few minutes. Learning the DVD Print software is easy and intuitive.
This product is everything it says it is. I am happy to recommend it to anyone.
Service from Amazon.com was first-rate as well (but I'm sure you knew that).

| When Defective: More Trouble Then its Worth |
The item purchased was defective. The printer was functioning properly for about 3 weeks, (4 stars for functionality- while it was working) until I was alerted that an ink cartridge needed to be replaced (for the first time).
I purchased 6 ink cartridges from a retailer, and upon installing the specific cartridge that needed to be replaced, (Yellow), I have had nothing but trouble and an inoperable printer ever since.
At first, after the new ink cartridge was properly installed, it would not load the ink, nor even recognize that the ink cartridge had been replaced, no matter that I was following the instructions specifically. The same message occurred, communicating that the yellow ink cartridge needed to be replaced, over 2 dozen times.
After spending much time trying to solve this issue, to my surprise, another message appeared indicating that the light cyan ink cartridge needed to be replaced. I assumed that, for whatever reason, the yellow cartridge had been recognized and the ink recharged. So, I went ahead and installed a new ink cartridge for light cyan, and followed the proper procedure in charging the ink once again. To my dismay, the same problem occurred, the same message kept appearing. The new light cyan ink cartridge I installed was not recognized, the message stated I still needed to replace the light cyan cartridge. And so the ink was never charged, despite my best efforts.
In fact, the ink, to the new cartridges which I installed (both the new Yellow and Light Cyan cartridges I purchased separately), and tried to charge, were completely expended, without the printer recognizing the installation, nor without the ink being able to charge- obviously without a single page being printed. The particular product I received is clearly defective, and the manufacturer agrees.
