| A good writing tool. |
This is a top shelf book in my writers tool box. It is clear, concise, and informative. It has many good examples, and its flow chart approach to identifying and correcting typical grammar errors is easy to use. As a new writer, I find this book very helpful. |

| exceptionally useful little book |
I will avoid going into great deal about what this book does and does not contain; the purpose of this review is simply to express how useful Rules for Writers has been to me.
I was introduced to Hacker's 5th ed. Rules for Writers in a college English course, and the instructor was always eager to express its virtues. I have to say that, at the time, I was unconvinced; however, as my appreciation for the complexities of the English language has increased (if these types of books teach you anything, it is how ridiculously nuanced English really is), so has my appreciation for this book. Paper after paper, Rules has been an indispensable go-to for all of my writing concerns. It is both clear and concise in its explanations, and its various indexes and tables of contents (they are not redundant but rather very useful) make it possible to find exactly what you are looking for without much trouble.
I have recommended this book to friends, and I would recommend it to anyone else who seeks an extensive yet small and lightweight resource on writing mechanics.
