| Works great for this twin mom |
I have used this diaper pail for 2.5 months with twin babies. We go through a LOT of diapers ;) This pail has done a nice job. The only time I have smelled an odor is if the pail is full to the top and the pop-lid is left open. I really like the capacity to deal with double diapers of twins. I also have a Diaper Champ and I prefer this diaper pail over the Champ. They perform about the same, but the capacity of the Safety 1st Pail makes it a winner for me. |

| Not the best, but beats the hassle |
I was given a diaper genie at my shower, and from day 1 it was a hassle, it was complicated, I didn't really think it took care of smell that well, I just couldn't deal with something i would have to fight with everyday and change so often. This diaper pail is not the best, I can still smell some odor, but for me the simplicity of it is worth it. I hated the turning pushing, special bags, installations difficulties. This pail is easy, has a large capacity, has a space for deodorants and is not too expensive. So, you will have some smell leak out, but it's worth not having the headache from the counterpart. |

| Stupid design |
I don't know how this product claims to be odor free. There is no way that its design could hold in odor. The lid has 2 openings, one for bag changing, and a small blue one for inserting diapers. There is a blue hinged 'gate' inside that you have to push the diapers and wipes through. which can be messy if the diaper isn't neatly rolled. I also hate that it snaps on my fingers as I push the diaper through. I tried letting the lid push the diaper through and that sometimes works, but it never works for wipes and again, it is messy if the diaper is messy. I ended up taking the blue piece out, which is much better.
I don't understand how the lid is supposed to be child resistant. It opens easily by pushing the small blue button. How is that supposed to be difficult for a child?
When you push the button to open the lid, it makes a loud rattle noise, which is the deodorizer chip clattering around. This is annoying at any time but is especially irksome when I'm trying to chage my baby in the middle of the night with a minimum of noise. I use my hand to slow the speed of the lid opening so that it doesn't clatter so much, but really, should this be necessary?
Right now my baby still hasn't started solid food, so odor isn't too big of a problem yet, but I will definately have to change pails before then. I received this one as a hand-me-down and although the mother who gave it to me is a fastidiously clean person, the plastic that this pail is made of absorbs odors and is permanantly stinky on the inside. Bleach hasn't helped. I read a reveiw that suggested this pail could be used as regular trash can after diapering, but I can't imagine this since it retains the diaper odor. |

| excellent for the price |
I love that special pricey bags or refills are not needed with this diaper pail. It does a pretty decent job of keeping out the smell, but with how stinky my son's poos are, I still tie poopy diapers in a plastic shopping bag before putting it in the pail (also keeps from getting yucky stuff of my hands when I push it into the pail). I do wish that this was hands-free like my other pail, but it works much better on smell. If you want to completely eliminate diaper odors you'll have to take each diaper out of the house immediately. |

| absorbs odor |
I have used this diaper pail for fifteen months now, about half of the time without the use of the inner plastic flaps that the diapers go through since two of the springs broke. I like that it uses regular trash bags and it does an OK job of containing odors (I have yet to hear of one that really contains it all.) But my complaint is that the thing absorbs and stores odors! It smells worse than any diaper ever did! I have tried bleaching it out, adding deodorizors to the little compartment in the lid, lysol wipes, air freshener spray, everything I can think of and the thing absolutely reaks! I think my son's diaper stinks, but then I open the diaper pail...even freshly cleaned and emptied with a brand new bag! |
